Those with Cobra/GT40 intake swaps on 302
I'd like to know what all needs to be modified, couldn't find the info I needed through search. I have a line on the complete intake minus sensors, injectors, and fuel rails. My main two concerns are if the truck fuel rails will mount to the Cobra intake and if I'll need a different throttle cable, if there's anything else I've not mentioned that could be an issue, I'm totally open to input. I know there are guys who condemn this swap, so just to keep from beating a dead horse, this truck is mostly just a road vehicle that doesn't see heavy loads, plus with the 5 speed I don't have any problems with torque. I'm just looking for a little bump upper end HP. Thanks in advance!

Truck fuel rail will fit and I'm 90% sure you will need a different throttle cable as the TB connection mechanism is different. You won't see any meaningful difference in power with this swap but hey.. if you got the intake and don't mind finding out for yourself then go for it... it will look unique if nothing else.

Alright, that's what I was kind of expecting. From what I've read, the swap is good for a few extra ponies (not really worried about that), but mainly that it moves the power band up higher, which is what I'd really like to do. Another thing, what about the EGR? I'd like to retain that function, and I believe this is the internal EGR style, the intake is from a '93 Cobra, I see this talk about 10-pin connectors. What should I make of this?

Those are in the plan, they're not commonly found around here. I'm just in need of an intake at the moment and figured I'd give this one a shot. I've got 4 sets of Windsor heads, I believe the E7's are the better of my lot. Two sets of E7's, a set of C8's? or something like that ('69 F100), and whatever was stock in 1980. Are either of the latter any better than E7's?

If you want more topend power you need a cam, the stock truck intake is not at all restrictive(actually outflows the Explorer GT40 version) and there is still a lot of untapped potential in the stock heads.
You motor already has E7 heads on it too and those C8's aren't really any better and probably don't have hardened valve seats, keep looking for GT40s.

Truck Fuel rail will not fit without a spacer.
The Valve covers on my truck also would not fit in the factory orientation, however if you go the route if the GT40 has internal EGR provisions , you can swap the valve covers to opposite sides, it will be a tight fit, but it will work. Original covers will work with a spacer though.
You will need to modify the TB throttle linkage and armature if you have an AOD trans - you'll have to make the bracketry to hold the cable and the armature will have to be modified so the TV cable has a place to link to.
You also are going to have to modify the throttle cable bracket the hold the original cable - I think I read you could swap in the explorer throttle cable and it will work without modifying.
However, I have not been able to make a bracket yet to work with my cruise control, I dont use it often so I just put it to the side for now.
It's a mess to swap it, you're gonna need to move the Ignition coil elsewhere - and your TAB/TAD solenoids are gonna be kinda free floating by one bolt.
Here's a youtube vid I took the other day for some issues I have, you can kinda see the layout. Works for me.

You're also going to want to swap all your vacuum to rubber lines - dump the plastic stuff wherever you can. Make sure to dedicate a vacuum line to the MAP sensor and the Fuel Pressure Regulator, they must be independent.
This is (as far as I can remember) what I had to do to get mine down the road - still ironing out kinks to this day.

What's wrong with the fuel rail? After some digging last night I found an early Bronco guy who used the F150 rail on his using a GT40 intake. Valve cover orientation isn't a big deal to me, they need seals as well. Manual trans, so that linkage isn't an issue. I might be thinking outside the box here, but I'll give it a shot, could one not use a throttle cable and cruise setup from a Lightning? Seems that would be a perfect fit. I expect a bit of work and time, this truck is somewhat of a project. I'm trying to make it suit my needs a little better while adding some unique (but factory) touches. Also, can you elaborate on the TAB/TAD solenoids? I can't quite picture what you're talking about.
