1999 Ford Expedition Water Pump
Hey folks,
My expedition has 194k miles on it. I am doing maintenance on it now and wanted to know if it is recommended to replace the water pump. There are no leaks and it is running fine - biggest concern is: Will the bearings fail, ect...then leave me on the side of the road.
Any advice let me know.

There are several things that effect the lifespan of a water pump. Was it ever overheated, was it ever run dry, what's the environment it normally is driven in, is it subjected to hard acceleration and subsequent higher RPMS, etc.? IMO, the water pump isn't giving you a problem, so why ask for one...let resting dogs lie.

Unless you are planning a trip across country, I agree that there's no reason to change.
When water pumps start to go bad, the front bearing starts to wear and the seal starts to leak.
The front weep hole beyond that seal allows coolant to start to drip. A clear sign that it's time to change. Many times, you will start to hear it "rumble" as a result of the bearing starting to fail as well.
If the urge still exists, they really aren't too much to changeout.
