Problem with 03 F-250 Transmission

I've been to several shops and no one seems to have an answer. My truck is having transmission issues. Sometimes it shifts fine, sometimes it doesn't feel like it wants to get out of first gear. On the occasion the overdrive light will flash which mean "limp" mode. Turn the truck off and it goes away. I don't have a check engine light or is the problem consistent. Any ideas of what to check or what the problem is would be very appreciated.

I'd still plug a scanner in just to see if there are any stored codes. It's my understanding that not every code will set the CEL.

Can any shop i go to read that? I don't have a scanner and without driving to the ford dealer that's 45 min away, that's my only option.

Most any shop should be able to do it if it's not diesel. Should be an OBD II port. Even an Auto Zone can generally pull codes for you. But the diesels usually need more specialized software and many places don't have it if they don't work on diesels.

Auto Zone CANNOT read the codes that flash the OD OFF light. Any competent independent shop will be able to read these codes.

Always good to see you post if it's a Ford transmission issue, Mark.
Kinda why I threw the "generally" qualification in there about Auto Zone.

Thanks guys. I will take it to a local shop and see if they can read anything. If they don't see any stored codes, what should my next step be?

If they don't find any codes your next step would be a better shop. When the OD light flashed codes were stored.
