Stay on the right side diagram. See that big blue square in the middle that says "Horn switch, set, accel, coast, and resume"? That's the steering wheel part that turns. That has the horn button and the cruise switches in it.

Look around the outside edge of the blue box. Each connection says "brush". That's the ring/brush sliding contact in the steering wheel. You have had it apart, you should recognize what I am describing correct?

The blue wire should go up to the brush or the contact trace(I have forgotten if the brush is on the wheel or in the column)

Oh man thanks. I should have figured it was in the steering wheel. I took apart the old column I had. It was missing so many pieces so I gave up and bought the one in the first post for $150. I have to wait until Sunday to revisit where I left off with everything.

I have dark blue and yellow/maybe dashed something wires going to these two springs. Not sure if thats the piece i'm looking for. Gonna do a little research right now.

Yes, the blue/yellow going to those springy connectors are for the horn.

Stop, wait a minute, hold on. The cruise control right side diagram shows 3 brushes. And the wires should be darkblue, blue/black and black.

Your picture only has two brushes, and you said it has a yellow/lightblue and one other wire. That matches the left side diagram, the one with no cruise. You have a mess going on here. That part in the picture is for a non-cruise truck while your truck has cruise. Someone verify what I am seeing and see if I am mixed up or not.

The old column is pictured here. Im going to take the new one apart today.

Im going to use a scrap piece of wire to ground the brush wires to the steering shaft.

Also Im adding a cruise control servo from pull a part. Looks like thats the only other thing missing from all this.

How is your cruise going to work if you only have two brushes? Your horn won't work either. If your truck is wired for cruise, you need a 3 brush piece. Unless I am looking at the diagram wrong.

So guess what. After a little more trouble shoothing. I changed the horn relay. Yep. Thats what got it working. Auto zone had it to me next day.

Can someone help me clearfy a couple of things. I used a test lead to see if the blue wire had power at the horn switch. I didnt. Also i jumped the power wire and the wire going out to the horn together. Essentially by passing the relay and the horn worked. With that i decided to replce the relay. Tell me what you think. Good method or just lucky?

Jumping is usually a last resort. Shorts and melted wires can occur really easily. A good voltmeter is worth its weight in gold.

I jumped it only for a second to test. I will buy a good voltmeter soon.

The trucks with cruise also have a relay, which the trucks w/o cruise don't have. If you look at the schematic the horn button on the non-cruise models connects power to the horn. But on the cruise models it grounds the coil side of the relay. Altogether different.

You may be able to just add the relay - if you can find one. Or, make a Bosch relay do the job.
1978/86 F100/350, Bronco & Econoline: No Speed Control, no horn relay.

Dunno about 1980/86's, but 1978/79 F100/350's, Bronco's and Econolines with Speed Control, the horn relay plugs into the Speed Control's amplifier.

Originally I was going to use a bosche relay because originally I thought the truck never had speed control. I installed a steering column from an 85 bronco that had speed control.

My truck actually did have all the speed control parts except the servo.
