Wiring help AMP power steps 2001

I struggle with finding the stuff in the dvd. Paper books were always easier for me.

Trying to install AMP powersteps on the wife's 01 and having problems finding the correct wires. I'm looking for the rear door ajar wire on the driver side. According to the instructions that came with it, it's supposed to be a black wire with a white trace in the harness under the sill plate. Problem is there's not a black wire with white stripe in the harness.

Move to the passenger side and the front door ajar wire is supposed to be black with a pink tracer on the harness that runs toward the door handle. Again, no black wire with pink tracer. Rear passenger door ajar is supposed to be a black with white tracer in the sill plate as well, but it's not there either.

Kind of makes me worry about the first wire I tapped into. The black with a yellow tracer for the driver side door ajar. That one matched, but since nothing else does I'm starting to wonder.

So anyone good at reading these diagrams or has been through this that can help me out with finding the right wires?

Problem is, there's no BK/PK in the harness. Same goes for BK/W.

So now what?

These are not under the sill plate/ They're in the door harness which passes into the A & B Pillars and then travel down, across to the main harness in the center of the floor board channel.

You're saying the wiring going to the B pillar is up overhead? There's not any harness under the carpet that crosses over. I thought that was done up under the dash and then the harnesses went down the sides under the sill plate? I don't remember any large harnesses in the A or B pillars, but it's been a while since I've looked in there.

Do you have the 2002 DVD? The 2002 wiring is radically different from everything before that year. Driver side rear door is light green with a yellow trace, passenger side rear door is pink with a light blue trace.

*Edit*... this wasn't for your truck - this is for the wife's 01. Coffee hasn't hit bottom yet. I'm still looking.

I have the 2000 WD and the 2002 WD, but not the 2001. The wire in the 2000 is black with a white trace on the Pickup and the Excursion.

I've got the 2000 - 2004 DVD. I did find the page that shows black with white trace as well. Problem is, when I dig into the wiring harness, there's no wire with a black with white trace.

Which of course really sucks. That means it looks like I'm going to have to go to each door handle and see if I can figure out what wire does what. Those wires of course are in almost impossible to access locations. Too bad they still don't have the simple push button door ajar switches like they used to use decades ago. Those would have been easier to trace down.

Well now the cd player in my computer is giving me fits.

Anyway, I thought I might as well share what I've found so far for anyone following along at home. If I can get this thing working again, I'm thinking of trying to find the wire colors for the door lock actuators and find the wire I need by process of elimination. There's only so many wires that go back to the handle. If I can figure out what all of the others are, I've got my answer, right?

Here's the diagrams I've found so far.

This is just a thought since I haven't looked at the wiring diagram yet, but wouldn't that wire be probably the only one that doesn't go through the power lock/window connectors? Maybe you could find it by eliminating those wire colors?

What's the build date on the sticker? Often changes are made half year so not to interrupt newer production line. In that case it would be the 02 possibly.

Both diagrams show it as a ground switched sensor. So, the wire will have power only when the door is open.

Use the courtesy light voltage in the door as a positive signal? This has the drawback of firing it off if you manually turn on the courtesy lights.

Imagine a flaky door-ajar switch - your driving neighbors will think you have a spy truck. "Look honey, that truck is getting ready for take-off. Ohp... maybe not. What the hell is he doing?"

Maybe it would behoove you to install an aftermarket hall-effect switch and do away with risking boogering up the GEM inputs. This has the added benefit of being very reliable, because the contacts can't get dirty and become flaky.
