Need help! Serial # or part #'s

I'm needing some parts for my late '86 6.9,it has the block built up around the block heater. The serial number is gone off of the valve cover and unreadable on the block. I'd really like to go OEM with parts. So if if anyone is willing if like to use a serial number off of another engine,or if anyone knows the part numbers. I need head gaskets, intake gasket, lifters and front crankshaft seal. Any help would be wonderful....thanks for any help!

I've got my '87 6.9 on the stand right now, I can get the numbers off it if you'd like, but are you sure you're looking in the right place? It's hard to imagine such a deep number wearing off. Front of the engine, drivers side, just to the driver's left of the IP.

Still not too impressed with your parts guy though if he needs an engine number to look up basics like seals and gaskets.

I was told to look above the oil cooler and there are numbers there, right behind the motor mount....but they can not all be read. But if you have a clear one that would be great!

The newer diesels have the number by the oil cooler, your 6.9 should be on top, by the ip gear cover

I've got one on the front of the IP gear cover, thought it might be a part number for the gear cover.

it's on the flat spot of the block where the ip cover bolts to on the drivers side it will start with 6.9 or 7.3

You don't need any numbers, what you do need is a partsguy that knows what the hell he's doing.
See post 8 - I edited in the MSRP & discount prices for the parts, all are available from Ford.
