Is My '56 F500 Starter Shorting?

I'm going through a series of checks before I reconnect the ignition system on my new (old) ride. Before connecting the starter to anything I wanted to make sure I didn't have a short. When I connect a volt meter from the positive post of the starter with one lead and the other to the frame I get continuity. Seems like a nice way to blow myself up. Anyone ever see this?

Never mind. Positive post isn't insulated from the starter housing.

You will get continuity from the post to ground, but if you use an ohmmeter you should see definite resistance thru the windings. The post should be insulated from the case of the starter.

Thanks Ross! That's good to know. I bought the necessary nylon washers so the cable doesn't touch the housing. Hopefully I can get her to turn.
