P1728/P1783 torque converter

Recently purchased a 1999 F250 4x4 7.3L. 213,xxx miles. The O/D off button has been flashing. I pulled the codes. P1728 (Transmission Slip Error-Converter Clutch Fault) and P1783 (Transmission Over Temperature Condition) From what I have researched my torque converter needs replaced. Apparently the apply piston is know for cracking and allowing pressure to bleed off causing higher revs and fluid temp increase? I did data log the truck and it showed that the tcc was being commanded to lock. It does seem that my revs are higher than what they should be while driving. Transmission shifts normally and smoothly, even while pulling a 7,000lb load. My questions are, Could this be anything other than a torque converter needing replaced? Since the trans shifts good, should I just put in a new converter and go? Will probably do pan drop and replace filter also. And a big question I have is what torque converter to go with??? I'm new to the truck/diesel world, always worked on mustangs. Truck will be daily driver, will have minimum mods and will tow maybe 8,000lbs occasionally. Would like a good quality converter that will transfer torque aquatically and is not terribly expensive. thanks for all help and input!

The E4OD had a big problem with the converter clutch piston cracking. Not so much on the 4R100, but it is possible.

Other possible causes are worn seals on the input shaft, a stuck TCC valve in the valve body, or a bad TCC solenoid.

Thanks for the reply mark, I know its an ignorant question, but how can I determine which trans is in my truck? place I can check by the vin or can I tell by visually looking. Any way to determine for sure its not any of the other issues you stated? thanks
