Question New Torque Converter?

I have decided to replace my 1998 4r70w Transmission rather than rebuild it. It’s a lot easier to replace it in one piece with a lot less chance for error and the cost difference isn’t that much plus you get a warranty. My question is should I replace the torque converter too? The existing transmission has 222,135 miles on it and it’s shifting a little hard. I don’t know much about torque converters. Do these things wear out? I have maintained it since new with oil and filter changes every 40,000 miles. The fluid is not completely red but it’s not brown. I think the bands and clutches are just worn out but what about the torque converter? Any help will be appreciated.

That`s an easy one. My opinion, for what it`s worth, is that you MUST replace the torque converter.
Hopefully some of the trans experts will chime in soon.
Good luck with the new unit.

NEVER use an old torque converter on a new trans. That's just asking for trouble. Probalby any new trans that you buy will come with a new torque converter already installed.

Yes, ALWAYS replace the torque converter with a new or rebuilt transmission.
