Ford F150 Oil pan Gasket leak

Hi,
I brought my 2002 F150 into the shop because of a small oil leak. I thought it was coming from a leak in the gasket of the oil pan which the shop confirmed. I changed the oil and put in the Lucas oil product that can seal leaks in gaskets (sometimes). This didn't work. I continue to have a small oil drip, more annoying than anything. I am not having to add oil continuously.

To change the gasket the shop basically quoted me $1,200 because on this engine size you have to drop the engine etc.

I am looking for alternative solutions, recommendations, etc. I can live with the leak but would prefer to fix.

Thanks
matt

Never done a 5.4, but I had an old 351 in a 1989 that started leaking after 15 years. Gasket got hard and shrunk. I was able to lay under the truck and get a 3/8 ratchet and extension on most of the bolts and tightened each 1/2 to 1 revolution. This was an old cork gasket and the bolt torque was low......... most of the bolts were loose.

Remember, there is no "flow" past the gasket, it is just splash from the motion of the truck.

remember, your not trying to CRUNCH the gasket, just keep it from leaking. "SNUG' is what you want on the bolts, not TIGHT.

I have fixed a few by cleaning the area with brake clean or alike and using some silicone over it.
As Steve says,it is just splash.
good luck
