Did I Make a Mistake?

Did I Make a Mistake?
I just purchased a 2006 F250 XLT 6.0 Powerstroke with 140,000 miles for $11,800. It is a single owner rig and he said that he has religiously changed the oil with only synthetic and also changed the fuel filter regularly. He replaced the turbo as well. Truck looks real clean and doesn't blow smoke. It starts perfectly when cold. Seemed like a great deal until I started reading on here that the 6.0 engine is plagued with problems. Should I keep or dump fast? Thanks in advance for your feedback.

1. Most all forums have people seeking help or repair assistance about what they own. You don't normally seek a forum to talk about how good your vehicle runs.
2. It's always a good idea to review something BEFORE you buy it.
3. Get an OBD monitor to check the health of your truck.
4. Happy Thanksgiving!

Just do the recommended maintenance and you should be fine. There are a few updates folks do to high pressure etc. to make more reliable. Go through the sticky at beginning of this forum and read away. I love my 06 F350, only issues I have had are turbo and ficm. I just did hpo updates as well for peace of mind.

Absolutely not!!!! You made no mistake a one owner vehicle that is well kept and that you can talk to the gentleman and ask if there has been any issues is the best way to buy a used vehicle. Do buy a monitoring device and keep tabs on the truck. You do t need to constantly obsess over them but check in on it once a week or so and when going on trips. I bought mine used hit in the front and not as clean as I would like for $6500. I did get an oasis report first that had no issues. It's been a great truck mechanically. I have had to so maintenance items. But any used truck you buy will need things. I have not regretted buying the truck at all even for a moment. It does everything I ask of it and has never failed me except on glare ice but that was Jair a matter of not having a locking rear and front end.

Drove around with my passenger side mirror tipped down watching for anything!
Got my Oasis report and found out the truck was on it's 3rd turbo in 28,000 miles of use!!! Oh crap! What did I just buy!!!!!!
I kept reading and learning and finally calmed down. Loved the truck ever since.
I'm Thankful this day, for not hitting the panic button and dumping it.
Enjoy the new ride. Keep reading and learning from some of the nicest folks around.
Welcome to the wonderful world of FTE.

I'm not going to sugar coat things
These trucks are not for everyone you have to take regular maintenance a little further
They need to be monitored with the owner able to understand what there looking at
The folks that drive them and pay no attention to it until it breaks down usually have to pay a hefty repairs bill cause the health of one system my dictate the health of another system
But from the sound of it you will be ok since you already found FTE and have already started your research on the 6.0L
Your next step will be find a gauge setup you like that works for the 6.0 and check it out to see what you really have
If you can do your own work there not to expensive
A few things that help a lot
Get a gauge setup
Do all the reliability mods first before moving on to performance mods
Those of us that do those couple things have had very very reliable trucks
If you need help to understand things just ask this is a great bunch of folks that will go out of there way to help we're a pretty tight knit group

Thank you all for the input. I drove the truck around some today and man is it sweet. I found a bunch of good information online so far and it sounds like the early 6.0's were trouble but by 2006 they had worked out most of the bugs. I will definitely be doing all the recommended maintenance and checking in on some preventative mods. Thanks again for the input.

Here's some good info regarding OBD monitors. It is wise to have one to occasionally monitor various things, and to diagnose starting/running issues if they come up in the future.

I 2 just bought a 2006...
I'd highly recommend all fuel, oil, and tranny filters (there are 2) and fluids be changed with only oem (motorcraft) products. There is a lot to know about even a simple oil change.. so YouTube or ask here. Couple things I've learned.
Clean oil is very important in these trucks.. I'd use a synthetic like T6.
check into a blue screen kit. It's easy to install and will let your injectors live longer. There is a external tranny filter on the right front frame rail near the radiator. It looks like a roll of toilet paper. Change it as I think people neglect this and mine was so clogged the radiator cracked due to it.
There's a lot more... I'm truthfully not the guy to diagnose your truck.. lol.. I'm new to the 6.0 game. This is just my experience with my truck.
I did however do some upgrades so I'd be ahead of the game.
1. T6 oil change with arcoil addictive. (Great stuff imo)
2. Tranny filters and took to dealer for tranny flush (hot flush so I was told)
3. Fuel filters (2 of them). There is an Allen screw near back filter on housing to drain water and crap. Pull that... I replaced mine with a quick thumb one. (Brass)
4. Gates belt from Napa
5. Mishimoto Radiator and thermostat.
6. Oem oil cooler
7. Stc fitting and new ipr screen
8. Blue screen kit.
9. Dummy plugs and stand pipes. (Went in to do 7. And 9. And it was done; )
10. Torque app with a 30$ orb2 bluetooth scanner.
11. EGR Delete
12. Diesel Kleen fuel additive (reps to money pit)
13.. rest.
I did all these repairs and maintenance. It's a fun truck to wrench on imo.
These guys on here know these trucks like the back of their hands.
I've been bugging them since I've bought my truck... lol.. and their knowledge and help is incredible.
Pretty much all of the above... they had a hand in it.

I did my purchase with the thought in my mind that I was buying
a problem child of an engine. Well I have to say I do love it when
things don't work the way you think they are going to. I have had
a few little things but none of the horror stories that you read on
the net. If you think about it your most likely only to get all the bad stories
when you look on the net. We don't get a lot of My truck with the 6.0 is SO GOOD!
I got the truck in March 2012 and have put over 50K miles on it. Basic
maintenance is all I have really done. I did cause my own problem this
last summer when I broke a bolt changing the turbo oil feed from the one
with the flex to the solid one. I did a stupid green mechanic thing. Forgot to
double check my torque wrench after I took a break. Oh well it gave me
the excuse to change the EGR cooler to the Bullet Proof one I had sitting here.
Right now the only thing I need to do is replace injector #7 & #8. They are
reading a bit low on the IDS contribution test.
Do some more reading on how to keep your truck and engine happy.
