Hey guys, well I did it, I am now a Ford owner for the first time in my life!!! Just picked up an '06 crew F350 with 44,000 miles on it!!
the truck had a clean carfax and oasis(thanks guys)--one owner local trade, so now I'm just wondering if there are any things I should be looking for with the truck, warning signs, or things to check to see if they need replacing.
Also would like to here what kind of mods(no lifts or anything extreme) you all think would make this a better truck.
I will be towing a 32foot TT--possibly to Florida next winter and I will also be putting a snow plow on this truck.
I must say I'm still a little leary about the 6.0 issues I have been hearing and reading about, but I sure do see alot of them on the road and I'm just wondering if the problem trucks are the vocal minority in this whole thing.
Any way I'm stuck with it now!!! so I gotta make the best of it and any help would be great, thanks all.
Read this forum like you would a novel, a little at a time. You will learn just about every thing you need to know about your 6.0. All forums are a little depressing beacuse people visiting them usually have problems; that said, I love my 6.0. Its comming up on 90k trouble free miles. These trucks like clean oil, and fuel so first and foremost keep up on your oil and fuel filter changes, don't skimp, buy Racor made filters such as Motorcraft. Read on. Good luck.
Well if it had a clean carfax report it should be ok some 05 have problems but some are pretty good i know 03 and 04 where horrible years for the 6.0 like buillit said read it like a novel you will learn a lot and stuf

Use a Diesel Fuel additive. A intake elbow and muffler delete are pretty conservative upgrades. Most on here have a tuner/chip, I would say stay on the conservative end of power increases and consider that there are warranty implications before you do that one.
As stated above, read this forum regularly, there are allot of good info here, form your own opinions and go with what you feel is best for your truck.
Depending on how long you need to keep your truck, several mods that directly relate to longevity (really Ford can void warranty for any modification) I would risk my warranty for, coolant filter, bypass oil filter, ccv reroute, and the fuel line crossover mod.

Upcamper,
These two guys pretty much summed it up for you. Regular Oil and flilter changes using only OEM Racor filters, Stick with the stock OEM air intake, it is the best on the market and change it based on the "filter minder" (it can go upto 80k miles). And as duffman77 said use a fuel additive with each tank of fuel (Diesel Kleen Power Service is a top favorit around here but there are other good ones as well).
Also read the Tech folder at the top of this forum, lots of good basic info in there.
