ping on acceleration

I have a 2013 F150 3.5L Ecoboost XLT and have recently experienced a slight noise on acceleration in first gear. Sounds like a light rattle or ping.
Anyone experience this. The dealer says it may be due to carbon buildup (I have noticed that the exhaust has a lot of soot on it). They are suggesting some $90 additive to help resolve this and she mentioned that the problem starts to show up at about 30,000kms.
I read the posts on this and wonder if anyone has had the same experience with a rattle or ping? It does not affect power or cause misfire as described in posts.
Thanks
This is my first post by the way. Glad to be a part of the forum. A lot of great info here.

An Ecoboost doesn't have a wet manifold. Doubt a fuel additive can help.

Welcome to the forum. I have over 60,000 miles and never experienced a knock (or ping) on acceleration. First thing I would try is a tank of good gas.
The black exhaust is normal on the EcoBoost.

correct.

furthermore, there are some cleaning services which should NOT be done.

a fuel additive is probably safe, but may not do as much good in the GTDI engine as it would in a MPFI engine

I'm happy to assist, Ecoboost F150 XLT. I highly recommend seeking a second opinion in diagnosing the abnormal sound. Feel free to choose other dealers, as they are owned and operated independently. To locate one, click on this: Ford Find a Dealer - Ford Cars, SUVs, Trucks & Crossovers | Ford.ca Please get back to me with any updates on the diagnosis, and be sure to include the current odometer reading; I'll check the available resources.
