? about key in acc, door open and dome light

First off i want to be able to leave my stereo on and doors open without the dome light coming on and stating on forever. With the key in the acc position the dome lights will stay on indefinitely with the door open, so i thought id be smart and wire in a switch to my stereo that sends power to the key on and illumation wires of the stereo so i wouldn't need the key in, on to run the radio, thus no dome light. .. wrong... power is being sent back to the ignition on wire and it's just like my key being in acc position. Dome lights are still on. So can i simply put a diode in line before my +12v switch wire to prevent the 12v from going back to the fuse panel? This all makes sense in my pea brain....

You could just put a switch on the dome light itself. Seems like it would be the simplest option to me.

Oh, I was thinking more along the lines of a mini toggle switch right on the dome light housing. Pretty hard for that to be overridden

I don't know off hand what else is on the fuse for the dome light, but you may be able to wire a switch in with a couple spade terminals and an inline fuse holder. That would also make it easy to undo if you ever wanted to.

I did what Pikachu mentioned with a toggle. I went into the dome light fuse under the dash and replace the good fuse with a bad fuse. Put two wires coming out from each post of the fuse to a switch. Works fine.
