79 F150 2WD cab swap onto 79 F150 4wd truck.

Has anyone swapped a cab from a 79 F150 2wd truck on to a 79 F150 4wd truck...both have C6 autos? Everything looks pretty much the same but the tunnel where the tranny/t-case are located appears to be different. Is it as simple as cutting a hold for the T-case shift lever? The four wheel drive tunnel looks to be bolted in place and appear to be a deeper tunnel where the 2wd is single piece with the entire floor. Any input is appreciated.

The 4wd tunnel is deeper than the 2wd and the 4wd tunnel cover is bolted in place.

You can use the 4wd tunnel cover as a template. Lay the 4wd cover on the 2wd floor, mark around the perimeter, leave enough margin for the screws / bolts and cut a hole in the 2wd floor. Use the 4wd cover and you should be good to go.

Thank you for the feedback Roger, much appreciated. Glad I kept the 4wd cab around for parts until I am done with the swap!

My 76 2wd originally had a column shift 3 sp. There wasn't a removable transmission tunnel cover. It was stamped as though there was. Eventually I decided to use a T18 4 sp that had been in a 69 truck. Its cover perimeter looked just like the stamped area of my fixed floor. I used a dremel cutting wheel to cut my floor just inside the stamped area. The cover from the 69 fit like it was meant to be there.

Hello,
I have the hole and bolt locations cut into the floor of the truck. Everything turned out great. Any suggestions on what to use to seal between the tunnel cover and floor?

Glad everything worked out ok.

As far as a sealer, 3M makes a product called Strip Caulk. It's designed to be a body panel sealer.
Any auto body supply store should carry it, or something similar.
