Welcome aboard. Lots of great info on here for pretty much every part on these old trucks.

Got any pictures and other details of the truck?

Aw the need for speed makes one feel good at first with a big V8,and great for towing.

But just for daily driver a 240-300 that gets good gas mileage is a wonderful thing in todays world with these old classic trucks.

But if you don't mind paying 3-5 bucks to go 10-12 miles with a V8 go for it.
Welcome to FTE

yeahloh Welcome to and the Bumpside Forum.

Hey share a little with us what you hope to do with the truck. Without OD 12mpg is about as good as it gets, many in the 8-10 range. Power steering & Disc brakes is an excellent upgrade. If you are thinking engine transmission I suggest doing it all in one move while the truck is down.

Drive it some first, let it speak to you tell you what to do.

Shackle hanger or axle flip? That's a decent suspension swap setup you got planned a t5 is nice to have but I think you need to have bucket seats depending on what style trans shifter you have. They come up in the floor where the bench seat gets in the way.

I have heard it will stick back a good bit , but I like a challenge and will mod the center of the bench seat to clear the shifter , I want to keep 3 pedals in the truck , and the over drive will help with millage on the long trips I have planned for it
