I see. Is there anything wrong with using a kit like this:
http://ebay.com/itm/201158520655?nav=SEARCH
I'm sure I could find a used trans for less than 500-700, obviously would not be near as strong or reliable as rebuilding. But if a $200 kit could get me by then... Sorry for so much speculation without knowing what's fully wrong.

so now i just added another option to my speculation list, the parts truck i found, has an e40d. lets say my 4r70 needs to be gutted, with all parts on hand would it make sense to have an e40d versus 4r70? forgetting the work involved to swap? how bad is a cab swap? haha just kidding, i like to make more work for myself....

I would rather have a 4R70 than a E4OD. They may not be as strong, but IMO they are more reliable.

I agree.

And always get the transmission all the way against the block by hand and never by forcibly wrenching it. It should go easily once the converter is fully seated and everything is lined up.

I have an 03 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer with the 5.4 V8. There are 2 different torque converts for this model. One being a straight fit, and the other being a 45° fit. How do I know which one to buy?
