It says it is an upgraded version of the normal motorcraft filter. I haven't heard of anyone having problems out of the "normal" oil filters like motorcraft, purolator, etc, so I wouldn't see a reason to pay 4 times as much to get a performance filter.

Probably has a slightly thicker can and end cap.

Here's what Ford says about it.

FORD RACING HIGH PERFORMANCE OIL FILTERS

Synthetic-Polymer/Cellulose-Fiber blend media.

Heavy gage base and canister for higher burst strength and impulse fatigue resistance

High quality silicone anti-drain back valve

Non-stick sealing gasket for ease of installation and removal

Long life with standard and synthetic motor oils

Up to 50% more filtering capacity then standard filters

Improved filtering efficiency

This technology is only available through Ford Racing Performance Parts.

Can be used in many FL500 applications
I don't see how it's worth 4X the price of a regular FL-820S. If I wanted an upgrade from the FL-820S, I'd get a Fram Ultra for $8 at Walmart.

Don't need the thicker can for our trucks. I know the std FL-820s will handle 85psi of oil pressure no problem. If you want some more filtering capacity buy a Purolator Pure One.

Lot of the Mustang guys think it should be used, I never had a problem using the regular 820S in either of mine.

Sounds like construction of Mobil1 filter.
This is smaller diameter than FL-820S.
What is the application?
I only use the FL-820S as you need to keep the flow
up just as Ford designed it for the OHC's.

That is what I use on mine. No problems with it at all.

The regular Motorcraft filters are made by Purolator. I'd imagine these are as well. Mobil doesn't make oil filters. "Mobil 1" branded oil filters are made by Champion Labs, which is actually part of Fram.

These "racing" filters are exactly the same size as the FL-820S, and have a higher flow rate. They also have higher efficiency, so they flow better and take more contaminants out of the oil than the regular Motorcraft filters. Still not worth 4X the price IMO. The FL-820S is an excellent filter and only costs around $4.

"They also have higher efficiency, so they flow better and take more contaminants out of the oil than the regular Motorcraft filters" can't have both
The factory uses the very low filtering efficiency FL-820S so the engine has the highest flow of oil.

my engine oil pressure seems the same reguardless if I use FL-820, FRAM equiv, BOSH eqiv, Mobil 1 Equiv.

there does seem to be some reported differences in efficenciy of particle trapment as well as overall amount of grams of collection before going into bypass.

there are also psi differences for by pass mode

it would be great to know when a filter is full and in bypass mode....especially if you run long drain intervals.

I also wonder if there is a difference in reverse flow valve functionality if you use dino, blend, syn.

But, Im not believing that the racing filter is just a painted white version of the FL-820. It shouldnt cost an extra 12 bucks to paint it white.

I don't know about this particular filter, but I do know that most of the time you are just paying for a name and not the actual product. I drive a tanker and I haul all sorts of chemicals from oil, antifreeze, fabric softener, laundry detergent, etc, and I am in the manufacturing/packaging plants daily. I will watch them run a batch of something name brand that is $10 and then immediately run a store brand into a different bottle and it costs $5. I watched 5 different brands of antifreeze get bottled out of the same tank I just unloaded, nothing different about them at all, no additives, etc.

The gauge on the dash will read in the center if the oil pressure is 5 or 80 psi!

so I received one today. a very heavy filter. easily double the weight of any of the top sellers (wix, mobil 1, bosh, stock motorcraft, AC, champ, fram, purolaator, etc) so its not a painted white version of a shelf item.

no spec's anywhere to be found terms of percent efficiency at a given micro, psi for by pass, number of grams it traps. heck, I'd like to know if the anti-reverse flow works any better.

one interesting thing the box says...drain interval of 3000 miles.
