A Question For the computer people :

Had an issue with my Win 7 laptop last week . I ended up getting it to work again . But for some reason the C partition has been renamed for some reason .. It went from plain C: to +1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1 C: I don't have any idea how long it has been like that .

I havent found any info on it on the net so far , any help would be appreciated .

Thanks

I haven't ran across that before..

I would check for a virus..

Another possibility would be the drive is failing..

Donjamer certainly knows more about this stuff than I do, but there might be another explanation.

If you google 'renaming c: drive', there are bunches of references explaining how to do it. (I've never tried this).

POSSIBLY, you (or somebody else) actually renamed it by accident. I've certainly accidentally (All right FAT FINGERED) opened odd functions. I once somehow clicked my graphics properties and turned the screen image sideways.

So, maybe that's all that it is. If it is, you SHOULD be able to rename it C:. As I said -- I have never done that, but there are lots of references -- even one from Microsoft.

Good Luck,

hj

My guess is that the C: partition got corrupted somehow and, in the process of rebuilding the partition, the renaming happened. Windows 7 has a built-in "safety" that prevents the core system files from being corrupted, but the file system can still be affected.

I don't think renaming the partition back to "C:" is going to help. At this stage, the file system is corrupted; certain files or programs will not operate properly or, if they do, not very well. The only course of action then, is to wipe the drive and reinstall Windows 7. Your laptop should have a recovery partition that will allow you to perform this task but, make backups of your data first as it will be lost.
