Unhappy Lessons learned -- soft of -- EBPS; still need help

Not sure if I figure out the signature stuff.

My Excursion:
7.3 liter
214K miles

Issue: It has been running rough for a while and over the last couple of weeks has spontaneoulsy stalled at low idle. Sometimes the truck sputter or accelerates when driving between 30-40 mph. When it stalls, I can get it started quickly enough just is very annoying. My gas mileage is usually 16-17 city and now it comes in at 13.

Here is what I have done so far:
1. Replaced the CPS -- It had a gray one, and I replaced it with a gray one. Did not fix anything.

2. Replaced the EBPS -- !@#$!. Cannot tell you how hard it was to get that stupid sensor off. In order for me to get the sensor off the bracket, I removed the bracket from the block. I cleaned the bracket off and re-applied Permatex Gray.
a. The sensor was _jam-packed_ with crud. It was hard/solid (not sludgey) and I scapped most of stuff out of the tube and just replaced the sensor.
** I thought I was home free **
b. It ran great for the first day. My mileage went up. Truck ran _much_ better. Then it started to do the exact same thing -- run rough and stall at low idle.

Questions:
a. Can the EBPS get clogged again. Is there a reservior of crud somewhere that I need to take of?
b. Can the EBPS sensor go bad in a day? I got it at Autozone -- BWD EGR174. It was about 1/2 the cost I got from the dealership.
c. Is there an issue with the bracket that I removed? I was told that the bracket was just a bracket and not a cover -- well that was wrong. When I removed the bracket it showed a hole, but there was no fluild behind cover that I saw.
d. Is it just something else?

Any insight is appreciated.

I currently have about 3/4 of a tank. That does not seem to affect it.

I did remove the sensor and found a _small_ amount of water -- almost like condensation.

Thanks for the response though.

Aftermarket sensors always have one answer from me: "I don't know, but I do know the OEMs work."

It's not likely to clog in one day - here are the possible scenarios:

Aftermarket sensor can't be trusted - half the cost for aftermarket plus full cost for getting a better one the next time does not save money.

The sensor isn't on tight, allowing very hot gasses to reach the sensor and damage it.

EBPS was not the original problem you were trying to fix, but it was one of the issues with your truck.

#3 rates pretty high on the odds, with #1 being a question.

You replaced the ebps, did you also clean out the tube from the pass. Side exhaust manifold to the sensor? If the sensor was packed full of soot then the tube is probably clogged as well.

Yes....extremely well. Brake cleaner, weed eater cord, cordless drill....pretty much tried to do what I saw on the numerous videos.

Perhaps there is a pile of soot/crud where the EBPS tube meets the manifold, and more of it shook loose and blocked the tube again. I'd rooter it with the weed eater line again. At least it's free and doesn't take too long.

Here is an update:

Concluded that I probably crimped the ebps line when torqued the bracket.

So here is the next chapter in my ebps excellent venture.

1. Thought that maybe I didn't tighten the bracket enough.
2. Therefore, I thought I ought to tighten so tight that I break the bolt.
3. Had to figure out how to extract the bolt -- long day, not fun day.
4. Got new ebps line and re-installed everything.

Newer information:
1. Borrowed a friend's OBD reader: I had the following codes:
0673 -- Glow plug #3 circuit failure
1211 -- ICP pressure above/below desired
0478 -- Exhaust pressure control valve high input
1280 -- ICP circuit out of range low

2. Cleared the codes and they have not come back on yet.

3. However, the truck is still stalling at low RPMs.

Tugly -- sorry I did not reply to you. I hear you about the ebps -- after market vs. OEM. Probably just need to suck it up.

Here are my questions / thoughts:
The bracket -- I straightened it out as well as I could, but it is not perfect. Could that cause the problem?
I have an OLD flashpaq that I chipped the truck with years ago. Someone suggested that I restore the original settings. I can do that?
Last -- do I get a ICP sensor (OEM -- thanks Tugly)?

Any time you suspect an ICP (common symptoms are low power without smoke or no start), pull the connector and try to start the truck. If the truck roars to life and appears to drive normal - bad ICP.

Caveat: If you have a custom tune in there, the snow globe is pretty thoroughly shaken.

As for the EBP, the bracket just needs to be sealed to make sure there are no oil leaks down the front of the engine. If the tube can transmit the backpressure and the fittings don't bleed hot exhaust gasses, then the EBP sensor is "properly" installed.

Thanks Tugly -- so I have returned the programming to stock.

Just because I am now paranoid --

Step 1. Remove ICP
Step 2. Try to start truck.

If Truck starts normally --> replace ICP.

If Truck does not start --> something else.

No, not "remove ICP" sensor. Disconnect ICP sensor wiring harness connector . . .
