ESOF switch on dash

Having transfer case problems.. no lights on dash, (except when starting), not engaging..(4X or 4XLow), no voltage to transfer case motor..Checked all the fuses..Cleaned both connectors on transfer case.. switched the relays under the hood.. Want to check ESOF switch.. How do you remove the switch from the dash ?

I don't know if all the switches are the same, but on my 2000 just slip a knife in under the black bezel that the switch sits in and pry, there's 4 snap in tabs one at each corner of the bezel.

Then from the back the switch itself is screwed onto the bezel.

OK.. I am bench checking this 4 prong ESOF switch.. With an ohm meter (20K scale), the two outside lugs has continuous continuity in all positions of switch.. Between the two center lugs .. each mode respectively, 3.9K ohms, 1.1K ohms, 360 Ohms. Sound about right?

I thought you said you had no voltage to the motor. Glad you got it fixed, but know voltage to the motor wouldn't help if the motor was replaced.

I didn't think I did at 1st, but it appears to have voltage for only a second or so.. Still working great..!

If you exercise the solenoid one a month I have found the failure rate is almost 0.

I had an issue back in the late 70's where one failed. The mechanic who replaced it told me to put it in Low, High, Off once a month. I've not had an issue since on any of my vehicles..

ESOF in the late 70's?

Your advice about cycling 4X4 is sound.

I also agree, I don't do it once a month, but do do it when I think of it.
