I installed a powermax turbo, and got some tuning from gearhead.

As of now i have only used the "unlimited tow" tune.

I have been breaking everything in slowly, and today was the first time towing(empty trailer), and therefore first time of higher boost levels.

The boost gets up to around 17psi and slight squealing sound develops, if i throttle into it more, the psi will increase to 20 with a very loud squeal; the PSI has yet to go over 21.

Is this squeal similar to a blow off?
20psi seems low, is there a problem with my new turbo, or is this a tuning strategy to keep the heads on the block?

 

Did you check the expansion joints in the up pipes for cracks? I heard one that gave off a squealing sound.

 

I would check cac boots, ypipe for leaks

When i did the turbo I replaced the boots and y pipe.
I'll try that method on the video, thanks!

How do these turbos keep from over boosting? There is no blow off valve.

 

VGT will change the turbo vane angle.

I am beginning to wonder if it could be the fan clutch?

At the same time i replaced the turbo i installed a manual fan clutch from a 97 7.3l; maybe at high load, high rpm its failing?

what kind of boost should i be expecting?

Why would you go to a manual fan clutch? Did you know that the
PCM takes more than just the temp into the formula when it
sets the fan on amount?
