Gauge-wise I've always thought Auto Meter were just about the best. They're not cheap but choices of function and appearance makes them among the best out there IMHO. Along with their mounting solutions as they call them the selection of mounting pods, both pillar and over head, is pretty comprehensive too.

If there's a downside to Auto Meter in general its their lack of images and cross fitting of pods etc absolutely sucks! For example---I have an E250 yet they show nothing for an overhead pod. Looking at F-Series OR Dodge Ram and voila---more than a few choices. One would think an outfit that big would be able to better fine tune their website.

Of course they do offer a printed catalog which is more helpful---for a mere $10?!

I'll second the vote for Auto Meter guages if you're looking to improve the quality of what you have. Tachometers vary in the amount of time it takes for them to respond to a change. It's not a big deal if you're not using it to shift at redline.

If I was doing it with a tach, the other two would be oil pressure and coolant temp. Otherwise you can mount a tach seperately and add something like a voltage guage or a transmission temp for towing.

BTW Auto Meter also offers a tach in the 2 1/16" or 52mm size---would make a great addition to an A Pillar pod.

They also make another 52mm pod that slips over the top steering column shroud. Offset to the left, snaps right on, doesn't greatly interfere with the stock instrument cluster. Here's one temporarily installed, '03 E250:

I for one really appreciate your revival of this thread especially with your additions.

I've flirted with digital display gauges but no further than the thinking "what if...." stage.

What sort of sensors are available etc---tell us more please.

didn't mean to revive really. just wanted to make my addition to the thread. this seemed like the best place for it. "aftermarket" section. auber has a few kits available, the one i purchased was the EGT. it comes with a thermocouple probe/pyrometer you install in the exhaust manifold… as for the fuel pressure gauge, i'm going to install it on the rear lower corner on the passenger side.

theres a couple of guys on here that really helped me in this direction.. both with install and selection.
