Check engine worse case?

Solid yellow engine light. Sounds and drives fine. Is it always emissions or can it be something bad?
I was going to leave sunday for a 2 month trip pulling the RV. Now stuck waiting for wednesday for dealership.

Worst case without any driveability symptoms? More than likely emissions. I guess it's possible to have an issue with the cam phasers or sensors, but I find that unlikely if it's running fine.

Trans issues will set codes and turn on the light too. Worst case???Trans slipping and going out.

Transmission faults have never set the CEL on Ford trucks as far back as I can remember. Early Super Duties would flash the "O/D Off" light if there was a transmission fault. Later models would flash the "Tow/Haul Mode" light. The OP's 2011 would illuminate a wrench symbol for a transmission fault.

It's not the transmission.

I encourage you to work with your dealer, Fastfwd, they're in the best position to diagnose this concern. Do you have an appointment for this upcoming Wednesday? Fill me in with some details via private message including full name, VIN, updated mileage, best daytime contact number, and dealership information. I'll look into this further.

others have chimed in on worst case....

best case is based on my experience with my light coming on and staying on....2 tanks of gas with lucas fuel system deep clean resolved it.

I'm sure if I would have taken it to ford and had them replace all the sensors in the fuel and exhaust system that would have worked also.

No need for escalating right now. I do have an appointment for wednesday. They could not give me anything before that. I'll let you know if somehow they are unable to fix on wednesday and I end up losing a big part of my vacation.

Well my bad on that. Thanks Tom for clarifying. I have seen scores of transmission codes that did set the CEL in the past and working as a Smog Tech in California we have even replaced a transmission on a VW to allow it to pass the smog inspection but I didn't realize Ford trucks didn't set them.

Without knowing the code you have no clue what caused it or if it will return. Sometimes things are barely out of spec and go back in spec on their own, it may not have been related to anything fuel system related. That's I like getting rained on when you leave the house and thinking it rained because you opened the front door.
