About to do a coolant flush and bulletproofing.

I appreciate all the help you guys have given me so far from my questions and extensive searching. I just have a couple more questions that I couldnt really find answers to.

I am getting ready to do my bulletproofing pretty soon but first I need to replace the thermostat and do a coolant flush. I am going to use restore and restore plus to make sure everything is out, and I think it is a good idea since I plan on replacing the oil cooler anyway.

I have NO idea what it has in it now for coolant. So that raises a couple questions, what should I put in it after doing the thermostat? I want to do the thermostat first to see what my deltas are before my flushing.

Next question is would it be bad if i used the restore and it already has an ELC in the truck? I know the restore is for the gel and stuff from the ford coolant, but will it do any harm if i use it and it has an elc in it already?

I feel pretty confident on doing the flush after reading numerous threads on here. I already have 20 gallons of distilled water, I just need to find where to get the coolant.

Thanks guys!

We use Final Charge from O'Reilly ( black jug red cap) .. It is red and you will know if it is already in your truck... You can not mistake it for gold or green .... You will not want to use a 50/50 mix because of the water that will be left in the block .. unless you plan on pulling both block drains...

Thanks for the help. Is all elc red? I was not sure if all was red or not. My degas bottle is dark and dirty and I cannot tell for sure what color it is. It looks either yellow or orange. I will have to get up in the engine conpartment and try to look inside with the cap off.

and yeah I know it has to be full strength, that link is for the full strength, the picture is just not correct. My question was more if that even is the fleetright ELC or not...

Is all elc red?
That is a good question.. that I do not know the answer to. We use CAT or Final charge and they are both very red...

I have seen orange in some of the trucks we work on, but assumed it was mixed with gold or just the wrong stuff..

I take a sample out of the radiator in a clear water bottle...

If a O'reillys isn't near you, NAPA carries a Zerex ELC "Diesel Ready" coolant that meets the Cat EC-1, Cummins requirements. It is also red.

Thanks! do I have to flush that much between the chemicals though? I know I need to at the end.. also, do both chemicals need to be used if switching from ford coolant to an ELC?

I do not know much about the restore you will be using , I would just follow the directions on the bottle ... Maybe someone else will chime in on the restore products

We use 2 bottles of VC9 on the first flush ... Then flush 5-9 times .. Then add coolant ...

Your final flush will be with Distilled water, and I would also drop the block plugs make sure the heater core and radiator get completely flushed, 5 to 7 is about right .
