I was surprised by a leak and identified where the water was coming from, the bottom of my vehicle. It's from a gasket or seal on the front of the pan near the flywheel. 1994 Ford Explorer 4X4.

You mean the harmonic balancer? That would the front cover / timing chain cover.

I believe so Mikerman. It's leaking from the one small spot I have circled. Due to the belt spinning near that spot the liquid is getting sprayed all along the bottom. What are the possible causes of a leak there?

There should not be water there.

Do you have water in the oil?

Can you get a cooling system pressure tester and pressurize the system without the engine running? That's the best way to check for leaks. Spinning engine parts and fans blow it all over, so trying to find it on a running motor is difficult.

If it is in fact coming out where you circled, time to pull the front cover see what you find.

Other sources above that would be hoses, the T-stat housing and water pump.

It's difficult to get a good view of the water pump weep hole. Sometimes those little inspection mirrors help.

Napa sells a dye you can put in the coolant. Run it for a while then look for the highest spot where you find the dye. You'll need a black light but it really shows up well.
