Max towing capacity

What is the safe max towing capacity for a 97 f350 crew cab 2wd dually, 7.3 diesel with auto trans? I will be pulling a 3 car wedge goose neck trailer with it to a car show in may. Not sure what the empty weight is but previous owner said its 20-22k loaded down with 3 vehicles. Its 52 ft long and a triple axle.

Also what are some good mods to do before making a long trip? My may trip will only be 4 hours or so but in july ill be making a 12-14 hour trip loaded down. Right now the truck has arp headstuds, 120hp injectors, and complete turbo back exhaust. I am buying the ts 6 position chip today and plan on having cold air intake and gauges soon. What else are must haves for my trips?

I think you will be all right with the weight you posted. Be sure the brakes on the trailer are up to snuff. Depending on the lay of the land, your exhaust temps may get on the high side, 1250 is the max sustained temps you want. If you don't have an aftermarket tranny cooler, I would recomend one. Heat is a killer of these trannys. I have heard one from a 6.0 equipt truck is good. Im' not an auto tranny fan, so some one with morr knowledge will chime in I'm sure.

Wasn't that daully for sale on louisiana or Mississippi cragslist ?

Is the truck in question the black daully ?
If so what gears do you have?
If its 3.55's with big rig rims its gonna play hell pulling that load.

With those tires and rims its kinda hard to say but its 4.10 or lower gears.

Take it easy towing and it should be fine

Legal wise it all depends on the info on the door sticker.

With the 10 bolt lugs, someone has swapped in a rear end from a F superduty (F450). The ratio on those were 4.56 or 5.36(?), or somehting on that order.

This truck is a mutt. Its titled as an 89 f350 cuz supposedly the frame and rearend came out of an 89 box truck. Everything else is from a 97 f350. I know the motor was rebuilt a couple years ago but have no clue what all they did to it if anything....truck runs and drives great tho and already seems to have good power. Just trying to get it all figured out.

By the way what is the stock turbo supposed to look like? Im not sure if mine is stock

Stock turbo sits in the back angled toward the passenger side. The rpm's sound like 4:10's, so if Tom is right about the higher gears, the bigger tires have knocked it down. You should be fine pulling that load, I've pulled 23K and what you see in my signature is 18K.

Hey you might check out the Trailer Life Towing Capacity Guide for your model year, you will be able to find the info you are looking for:

Also, if you are going to be towing regularly, I would like to recommend the StableLoad suspension upgrade to you. It is an easy DIY and there are also models available for the lower overload that are quick disconnect so you can disengage them while they are installed on the truck. They help reduce body roll, sway and bouncing.

I think you would like them. PM me with pictures of your overloads and I can direct you to a dealer in your area.
