99.5-03 F-350 7.3 towing capacity

what's up guys I'm new to the membership but have read alot of the Forums here and have been impressed with the site so I figured I would go ahead and join ya'll...I'm looking to buy a 99.5-03 F350 7.3 CCLWB...I'll be looking to tow a travel trailer around 7000 lbs with a EZGO electric golf cart in the bed...Im wondering if the truck would be able to handle that much weight on the RGAWR or how much it would affect how much tongue weight I could have on the TT with the golf cart in the bed...would I need to go with a DRW or possibly a newer gasser or just leave the golf cart at home(I dont like walking while camping...defeats the purpose of vacation )...any and all advice is greatly appreciated on what would be the best route to go...Thanks and have a good one!!!

You really probably won't even realize you are towing it once you begin driving. That isn't really that much weight at all. I was towing a 14,000 fifth wheel for many years in the hill country here in Texas. You will be fine with that setup. Just get you some get some gauges installed to monitor the transmission and exhaust gas temps.

How much does the golf cart weigh? I would suspect a dually (DRW) wouldn't have an issue. Not sure on a single rear wheel, though, as far as overloading the rear axle/tires.

Either would pull the combo, no problems there. I agree with your rear axle overload concern, though.

I am no expert but what I have learned is to know for sure you will need to check the sticker inside the drivers side door for the GVWR. It will probably be 8800 lbs. Weigh your truck loaded with passengers and fuel and subtract the difference is what cargo you can carry. You will also have to look at GCWR. The 1999 will probably be around 20,000 with a 7.3 diesel. So truck, golf cart (cargo) and trailer should not weigh over 20k.

A good guess is that your golf cart will weigh around 1000lbs. The TW on a 7000lbs trailer will be around 700 to 800 lbs...

Once all is connected and weighed you will know for sure... I don't think you will have a problem. Airbags will not increase your towing capacity but will make the truck ride better with the weight in the bed and towing a trailer.

it should be fine, i pull 16000+ at times and it dose not over load the axles. just load it right and you will not have a problem.

Golf cart should be around 1000 lbs...it's about 535lbs without batteries...I know I'll be good with everything except the rear axle/tires...it will add another 1000 lbs right on top the rear axle and that's where my main concern is.

IF you are not careful you will forget that you have a trailer back there...... It will be fine.

If it were me, I'd find a dually, but I'm obviously biased.

I think an SRW would be OK, if not a touch overloaded on the rear axle.

Only other concern is of course tires. Get good E rated tires.

You know...
We should start touching on this more often with the noobs...
We take for granted the weight we can handle because were already used to running e's.
It hardly ever gets mentioned except for the few and far between rubber threads.

Where does one find a good trans temp guage and exhaust temp guage? What temps should they be running at? How easy are they to install. I am very mechanically declined, but would love to figure it out!

I got mine from Riffraff. Got with the package deal. Will get 3 gauge pillar, EGT, Boost and Trans Temp..... Of course then you will have to start thinking of a 6.0 trans cooler..
