Help Finding Shoe Retracting Assist Spring

Does any one know where a Shoe Retracting Assist Spring 2035-6 can be found for 64 F100 2x4 front brakes. It is not in inclued in the hardware kits. Goggle search said it optional depending on who is posting, but it is there to prevent heat glazing which my problem.

The brakes work well the first time or so then start pulling to the right. All parts are new (except the drums) and I replaced a hard line that was too close to the exhaust. I have disassembled and reassembled the brakes and it has improved and keeps improving with driving. I would like to add the spring to know it is as it came from the factory. Henry Ford was thrifty and I can not believe he added unneeded parts to a vehicle.

The kits I got from Napa years ago had that spring. I think I may still

have some around. NumberDummy would be able to find them for ya.
Another option is a junk yard.

Thanks for the tip. I looked on NAPA's website and their Kit no longer includes the assist spring. There is a junk yard an hour away that has old trucks. I may head down there if the weather is good tomorrow.

NumberDummy Bill has his PM thing turned off. I don't know how to to direct
him here. He would prolly know if Ford has any anywhere in the states. He has
the resources we can only dream about.
Maybe I can e mail him.

Thank you. I will give Bill a chance to pick on the thread. I do not want to bother him too much. He does a lot of work for the forum members and if he is taking a break it is well deserved.

The highlighted long retracting spring that extends from the primary to the secondary brake shoe is:

C3AZ-2035-A = 1966/75 F100 4WD R/L Front/Rear / 1976 F100 4WD R/L Rear / 1975/91 F150 4WD R/L Rear.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The following springs should be available from any auto parts store, as these fit multiple applications.

For y'all that live in TX and want genuine Ford parts, NOS PARTS LTD in Waxahachie (972-937-2201) has 15 each of these C0MM springs.

C0MM-2036-A .. Primary Brake Shoe Retracting Spring-Red.

C0MM-2035-A .. Secondary Brake Shoe Retracting Spring-Black.

1964/72 F100 2WD R/L Front/Rear / 1973/83 F100 2WD R/L Rear / 1975/91 F150 2WD R/L Rear

1960/64 full size Mercury R/L Front/Rear / 1961/66 Galaxie R/L Front/Rear / 1967/75 Bronco R/L Front/Rear / 1976/91 Bronco R/L Rear.

There ya go Mac. I was pretty sure most stores like Napa still have them. But prolly
not on line stores. More likely something you will have to go in with the part number
and heaven forbid they will have to open a real paper book to cross over the number.

Thanks Bill, You Da Man.

Thank you Bill and Arctic Y Block. I'll take the old truck and my young boy's for a ride to NAPA and see it they can cross reference C3AZ-2035-A. Or see if it is in a hardware kit for 1966/75 F100 4WD. It is odd that is not listed for the 64 2WD because the picture is from the 64 shop manual. I may not have the right picture in the parts book. Bill, I am getting better but still struggle. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thank you again.

Even if it was not original, My shoes are dragging slightly and glazing over on driver side. The assist spring is supposed to prevent that. If I can not find them, the brake shop has two that are 1/4 inch too long. Maybe I can shrink them somehow.

C3AZ-2035-A = 1966/72 F100 4WD only .. uses one spring per side, while 1964/72 F100 2WD uses 2 springs (1 each primary and secondary) per side.

Parts catalog pic is for 2WD & 4WD, P100 (P Series Parcel Delivery) & E200 (1969/72 3/4 ton Econoline).

But, when you look in the text section at the parts list (#2), it lists the specific applications.

To list the various applications for secondary and primary springs (C0MM-2035-A & C0MM-2036-A) in post 8, I had to look in 5 car & truck parts catalogs.

Left: Applications / Right: Parts List #2
