Under Valve Cover Harness
Good Afternoon Gents,
Some odd things happening here. My buddies 99 7.3 (69,000) miles has been showing symptoms for need of the 50 cent mod also having major cold start issues for weather under 40 degrees farenheight. So went ahead and pulled the valve covers off, shimmed UVCH with the quarters and replaced the glow plugs. Put everything back together and we had major issues:
Service engine soon came on and he had no power so I read a few threads and saw to clean the UVCH with electrical parts cleaner and use some di-electric grease, while also checking the pins on the plugs for damage (saw some darkness around the "Common Injector" pin (the middle pin-#5 out of 9) on the drivers side. Took everyting apart-put it bag together and had the same results.
Unplugged each UVCH (one at a time) with the truck running to see if we could isolate the issue to one side...the truck still ran with one plug pulled out when done on each side. Kind of stumped here.
Tried taking resisitance readings for each injector pin from the common injector pin but did not have very good results...it seemed my multimeter was not working properly. So went ahead and ordered new harnesses to see if that will resolve this issue.
A buzz test has not yet been performed and without AE I can not scan the truck, will try to get it to Ford to see what codes she is throwing.
Just wondering if anybody has any greater input for consideration.
Thanks for the help.

Tugly,
-Yes there is white smoke on start, I conisder it to be relatively minimal, it does not continue to bellow out by any means. Just a descent puff upon initial start up.
-Yes it is loping/chugging while running with both UVCH are plugged in.
Have not been able to get a buzz test done yet, been out of town this week without internet access which explains the late reply.
Thanks

Update: Installed new UVCH, now she wont start at all. To my knowledge I installed them right. Plugged everything back in with accordance to the way the factory ones were.
No white smoke is coming out of exhaust upon her being turned over, my concern is the injectors are not putting fuel into chamber. Batteries are on charge and block heater plugged in just for GP. Going to try again in a bit.

**UPDATE**
I apologize this reply is so delayed, as work has me out of town frequently.
The problem has been resolved, ended up being an open in the valve cover gasket plug on the passenger side (upon further inspection noticed it was completely fried).
Thank you everyone for the inputs and knowledge.
