Besides yanking them out, is there a more officient way of testing the plugs? I have reason to belive that 1 or more is bad, blue smoke on start up and hard startingf with out plugging in, a light tester a bad idea? Also it has a putt for 5 seconds apon startup, no matter hot or cold it puts for 5 seconds and smooths out, glow plug or injector issure? Saturday isa going to be nice and id like to get the hands dirty
You can test the GP's through the valve cover connectors with the key off. Disconnect them and ohm out the pins (see below).
You should expect to see 3-5 ohms or less when checking through the harness. Anything higher the GP is weak.
A new GP w/o the harness should be less than .5 ohm
Use a good engine ground or the battery negative not the center pin in the connector.
Here's the pinout for each connector, there are 4, 2 on each valve cover
G I C I G
G= Glow plug
I= Injector
C= Common for the injectors
Removing the valve cover is the hardest part of the job. I would do all 4 gp's under that cover even if they check good. Use Motorcraft Beru's only, others will swell up and get stuck in the head. ie. autolite, bosch.
You can get them cheap on eBay.
