Is there any other wheels (taller) I can get for my 350 DRW so I can run taller tires. I am trying to save some fuel if I can. Or is there just a taller tire that would work without touching together?

 

I'm curious as to why you think taller tires will give you better fuel economy? Increasing the height of a vehicle typically increases the drag and causes fuel economy to go down.

 

He is thinking that with a taller tire it will drop his rpms hence changing the ratio in his truck setup.

Really you're not going to see a difference trying to go about it this way. I'm running 38s with 3:73s and at 65 my rpms are around 1600. I get a consistent 14 mpg.

 

Not much you can do other than adjust driving style. A gear vendor unit would help but you wouldn't see the return for a decade.

 

I thought if I could even get 17s then the rpms would drop some. My truck is already sitting high with a work cap on it. I didn't think it would make it any worse. My cap is almost a foot higher than the cab. Probably it would save some if I cleaned it out. The back is full almost to the top of the cap. My back seat is full almost to the roof and my passenger seat is full, but I can still see out the window and see the mirror. Changing rims and tires would be easier than cleaning the truck out. I did it a few years ago and it took almost 3 days for the whole thing. How about a tuner? Would that do any good?

 

For mileage, driving style will do more than anything else you can do. I doubt wheels or a tuner will ever pay for themselves in terms of miles per gallon.

 

Being 67, I am not really in a hurry anymore. I don't pull out fast or drive fast unless I am trying to merge onto a highway. So I doubt there is much I can do to change my driving style without just staying home. Maybe I need a ranger or something like it.

With age is know how and I'm sure by now you know what you're doing. Maybe a ranger is the best bet, I use my jetta 98% of the time.

 

I went from a 255/85/16 to 315/75/16's on my drw with 4.10s. I'm not quite to 67, I'm 40 but I drive in the slow lane at 65-67mph. And I take off like I have an egg shell under my foot. I get anywhere from 13-20mpgs.

I rarely try to figure out my mpg's anymore. My rpms have dropped but my drag has gone up. I lifted the truck a couple of more inches when I got the wheels and tires.

I also had to add spacers betwix the rear wheels

Did you need spacers with the 255s?

 

i had 1/4" inch spacer with the 255's i cant say it needed them but had them anyways. i have a 2" wheeladapter spacer on there now.
