Anyone have a NP435 and bell housing removed from a truck? got a question...

Need a measurement, how far does the input shaft protrude past the bell housing?
Just take a straight edge and put it across the bell housing and measure how far out the input shaft protrudes past the housing.

Also on the non-splined part of the shaft, what is it's diameter, and is it 10 spline?
I have a small block, (351) ZF-5 and looking to see if it has the same input shaft as my NP, but the NP I have is still installed in my truck....

Thanks

Yes, I do. I'll go back out to the shop and measure at half time.

Not sure what you are wondering about. You are stuck with the zf bellhousing, it's made onto the tranny. It will go right into the engine you have. I looked up a older truck and a newer truck with a zf, and they both have a 10 spline 1 1/16" input shaft, but the zf took a larger clutch than the older trans.

I agree with Dave that the small-block ZF will bolt up where the NP was. But, here are the measurements nonetheless:
  • Input shaft OD at pilot bearing: .668"
  • Splines: 10
  • Shaft Protrusion: -.030" as best I can measure
    • Shaft protrusion from transmission: 6 5/16"
    • Depth of bell housing: 5 13/16"
    • Thickness of bell housing: .470"
