2004 F350 Lariat 7.3 Powerstroke

I am interested in purchasing a 2004 F350 Lariat with the 6.0 Powerstroke engine. I would like to swap the engine with the 7.3 Powerstroke. What will this project require? Will engine mount location be the same? (easy bolt on?) How about transmission. I would like to use 2004 automatic transmission. Thank you!

You will need a donor 7.3 truck so you can swap over the engine, transmission, wiring, computer modules, accessories etc. Almost nothing from the 6.0 can be re-used except for the coolers up front.

Good luck. Will be quite a project. Do you have emissions testing in your area?

Thank you Shake-N-Bake for your reply.
Will I need to move engine and/or transmission mounts? I haven't welded for several years so I wondered if I'll have to change mount locations. I plan on manufacturing custom wiring harnesses for this project, maybe use little if any original 7.3 wiring.
Thank you.

I'm not wondering.

I'm sure it involves something along the lines of a dirt cheap 04 with a deceased 6.0 and having a 7.3 or access to one

I can get a good running 2001 stock 7.3 with 120,000 miles for $1200. I think will cost more to do a bullet proof mod with the 6.0.

You are going to need to use the entire under hood and engine harness from the donor truck including the battery cables and the fender mounted solenoid for the starting system. You need to use the PCM and IDM from the donor truck as well as the fuel pump and the instrument cluster.

If you are really going to try this swap, then you would be miles ahead to find a '02 or '03 donor 7.3 truck since there are some major differences with the under hood and cab wiring harnesses. Then your VSM and instrument cluster in your '04 may work (not sure about that last part but its worth a try...)

If the 7.3 is running good but looks like crap then I would think it would be cheaper to replace all the skin and freshen up the interior then do the engine swap.
