Hi all of you guys,


There is an idea in my mind, it is swapping my current 7.3 IDI into either 6.0 or 7.3 Powerstroke.


Those engines 6.0/7.3 Powerstrokes have already stock torque over 500 lbs.ft!!

The 7.3 Powerstroke 99-03 has three different versions, they came in:

- 235 hp/500 tq (99-2000, auto & manual)
- 250 hp/525 tq (2001-2003, auto only)
- 275 hp/575 tq (2001-2003, manual only)


While the powerful successor 6.0 Powerstroke has 325 hp/575 tq.



* Questions;

1. Will they fit on 87-96 F350 4WD models ??

2. The stock trans is ZF S5-42, will the 6.0/7.3 Powerstroke bolt into it ??

3. If the swap needs the following things =
"fabricating custom engine mounts + custom bellhousing upon my special order request", then I can easily do that without any problem to my budget.


If they can fit, I will keep stock, except "intake + headers + exhaust", because the engine is already deliver high torque, above 500 lbs.ft, especially the 6.0 L !! I know that the 6.0 has a problem with its factory oil pump, but I can install a much better aftermarket one.

The all above + new seals/gaskets are enough, no need to put powerful turbocharger !!



Now, tell me is the swap possible ??
I already know a person who has done many projects, who can fabricate engine mounts. I can also pull a used ZF 6 as well to bolt into the 6.0 #



Hope you guys give some ideas, what do you think of this idea ??

 

If you are going to attempt anything like that you will need everything from a 6.0 or 7.3 donor truck. This includes computers and wiring harnesses from both the inside and engine compartment.

The ZF tranny should mate up with the 7.3. I'm not sure about the 6.0.

If you are looking for more power maybe look into some turbo options for the IDI motor. Some of the guys in the IDI forum here have some prettt good options and knowledge

RacinNdrummin seems to be the resident expert.

 

If you have everything from a donor 6.0 it could be done about as easy as any other swap I suppose. A FIRM understanding of the 6.0 is required. It is a great engine once bulletproofed and can make awesome power.

All that said, a Cummins swap is easier, especially a 12V.

Easier still is to turbo your engine, like you have been advised 76 times in another thread LOL.

all made turbos for the IDI engines.

a 7.3 from a 94-97 would be pretty much a bolt in deal in place of the IDI, you would just need ALL the wiring from a donor not truck.


a 6.0 is NOT a bolt in deal and a very complicated swap, but yes it can be done

 

Im doing a powerstroke swap right now. Im taking my 90 f250 and putting a 94.5 powerstroke in. I can say it went in pretty good, trans bolted up perfect. I did have to buy a engine harness, the issue i ran into is that the engine harness will not connect to my 1990 cab harness, is there any adapters I could buy.

 

Long-dead thread, so anyone replying please pay attention to that.

To the new poster, it might be better to start a new tread rather than bring up a dead one for something like this. Yes it's related, but especially when the original thread hadn't gone so well (like this one), often people don't realize it's an old thread and start jumping into the fray, so your question gets lost.

And to try to avoid losing your question, sorry, I don't know about adapting a PowerStroke engine harness to an older cab harness. Maybe someone else can help.

 

Simply (gasp), you’re going to have to compare schematics from both vehicles and repin and/or splice wires together unless you can find a matching end (male or female) laying around.
