Rod Kruithoff Trucks-M-Hs 4 sale
#31
Rod's truck might be a bargain at that asking price. Old timers here will remember the lime green '51 that was for sale a while back in the Seattle area. Today it has been fully restored and is on the cover of a Griot's Garage car care products catalog. I swapped notes with Chuck and Mark about it, and Chuck suggested there was much more spent on its restoration than Rod is asking for his. Here is the link to the Flickr picture file. Stu

Mark Mossell has done the digging on this and learned that of the 50 or so that were converted, the great majority were done in 1950. Estimated 35. Because they were God awful expensive (assembled, shipped, disassembled, reassembled, re-shipped three times) production dropped off radically for the remaining years of the run. When I bought my 51 from Mark he said he estimated 7 in 1951, probably a few less in 1952, then dropping from there. He has iirc two 53s archived, his 55, and no 56s. His 55 is probably the last one done because there are no photos of 56s other than artists renderings. He thinks none were produced in 56. Stu
Marmon-Herrington wanted 200 or more per year, but The Shop Of Seibert's total overall annual production was less than 100 vehicles. And on top of that, Freddie told me that they forgot to include the paint job in the conversion price, so they purposely built a lot less Rangers than they could have!

Hard to beat the recollection of the guy whose name was on the company. Mark, to my recall, got his estimates from a now very aged former employee. I'll email Mark to check my own recall of our conversation and have him stop by here to maybe comment. The basic description shows the same pattern of drop off due to loosing money. Stu

20 or 25, that was 61 years ago! How many have survived is the question. 1,2,3 maybe. And Jen, I am glad to hear your son has a great interest in your dads 52's. To many kids these days have no interest in what was 50 or 60 years ago. Its good to know my son is not alone.

Mark Mossell shared his count with me a few years ago. Might have been revised since, but will be close. He archived the survival of 12 from 1950, 4 from 1951, 2 from 1952, at that time none from 1953 but I know 2 have surfaced since then, none from 1954, 1 from 1955, and none from 1956. Twenty-one total! Stu
