Hey guys I've got a 96 F250 with the 5.8 in it. It's a farm truck so it has its share of problems, but recently it just quit on us and won't start. It's got fuel pressure to the check valve, and we just put new plugs, wires, cap and rotor, coil, ignition module, and PIP module (pickup sensor thing in the distributor). We still can't get spark out of it. Also we only get 6-8 volts out of the coil when cranking. Any ideas?
I'm not sure I don't have a code scanner and it's just a field truck so it's had the cel on for awhile. It ran fine a few days ago after putting on the new (black not grey) ignition module, then it quit out in the field. We put on all the other new ignition parts but still no spark.
Was the Ignition Control Module (ICM) a Ford or Motorcraft version? Many of the aftermarket versions suffer from poor quality control. The same can be said for "rebuilt" distributors and PIP sensors.
got all the parts from napa, my girlfriend's dad works for a ford dealer and said it might be a faulty icm even though it is new. next thing is to get that tested and recheck for loose connections
So we got a new icm and it fired right up. I think the old pip sensor burned out the previously new icm, so now the truck has a new coil, pip, icm, and spark plugs.
