c6 speedometer cable for our year trucks
I posted this up in the 57-60 forum but maybe you guys can help. Has anyone found or know of a way to run a C6 speedometer cable to our stock speedometers? as much as these trannys are used in our trucks (mine is a 59) there must be something available in the after market. Just need to be pointed in the right direction. Mark

Speedometer cables can be custom made as long as you have the ends for your applications. Living on your side of the mountains, there's bound to be a speedo shop or some such place that can make one up for you. Every custom drivetrain install in every vehicle is going to be a little different, so really it's unreasonable to expect to find exactly what you need with the correct ends and in the exact length necessary on the shelf somewhere.

do you want the inner cable that drives the speedo or the outer sheath that protects it and attaches to the tranny and speedo head? The outer sheaths are usually length specific, but the threaded ends are universal AFAIK you would just need to find one that is the right length. I seldom replaced an outer sheath, so I don't know if someone could have a custom length made? The actual length is not very critical as long as it easily reaches from the speedometer to the transmission. The routing should be such that the change in direction bends are as large a radius as practical and secured somewhere along the length to keep it from flexing, whipping.. The inner drive cable is typically a universal cut to length "kit" that includes the spring cable with one end swedged square, a separate end to attach to the cut to length cable, a small packet of lube grease, and a simple one time use crimping tool. Instructions in the kit explain how to measure the inner cable length, cut it and crimp on the drive end.

Lokar makes this kit: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/lok-sp1502u/overview/
You'll have to order the gear and gear retaining clip separately.

thanks
Appreciate the help.Ax- the problem was comming up with a cable that will thread into the speedo head on one end and attach to the tranns. down below. It sounds like you are saying there are kits available that will let me make up one like I need.Dan that Lokar kit has a universal 5/8 threaded end so it may work as well. At least now I have some posibilities to research. much appreciated for the help. Mark

The 5/8 end is for the speedometer end. The housing is cut to fit. They provide an end piece for the speedo...you have to swage it on. They also give you a single use tool for that. So bottom line, cut the housing to fit, install the flex cable and cut it to fit...then swage the end on.
No matter which brand you buy, you'll need to pay attention to the gear that you get for the transmission end. There are different gears to tailor the speedo to your gear ratio and tire size.
