New member with question

I have a 2005 F-350 with 5.4 engine. The automatic transmission is giving most of the symptoms of the failed snap ring recall. My question is will a transmission from a 2004 f-350 6.0 diesel work in my truck. I believe both transmissions are 5r110w. The id tag on the 2005 gas tranny is 5c3p-7000-bb. The id tag on the 2004 diesel tranny is 4c3p-7000-kb. Any information is much appreciated

The diesel transmission probably has a different shift pattern and maybe a different bellhousing, it shouldn't work, anyway, I'll pass it on to the guys at the Superduty Chapter. Welcome to FTE Luke!.

Welcome to FTE.

One of the guys here, Mark Kovalsky, is a former Ford automatic transmission engineer. If you repost your question with a thread title of "Will a diesel transmission work in my gasser?" or something like that, you may catch his interest.

Lots of good information to be learned here!

Both the transmission cases have the same Part # on them(RF3C3P-7006-AH) and I thought the shift points were countrolled by the computer

Thanks for passing it on Encho. I'll also try Sc_hoaty's suggestion and repost with another title.

Again thanks for the replies

There was only one bolt pattern on every 5R110 transmission. The 6.0L, 5.4L, 6.8L, and 6.4L all use the same bolt pattern.

There is no shift pattern in the transmission. The shift pattern is in the computer, not the transmission.

There is one difference that will have to be addressed. The diesel torque converter has six studs, the gas version has four. Also, the stalls speeds are different. The diesel torque converter won't drive well in a gas truck if you can get it to fit.

So if you change the torque converter it will work.

There you go, a more informed answer. Definitely different to the relation of the E4OD in gas/diesel engines.

Absolutely! The 7.3L had a unique bolt pattern that was different from any Ford gas engine.
