New Door Pins

Ordering a new set of pins for both doors and was wondering if it is worth the extra money to get the stainless steel pins? After getting the old pins out finally, I want to make sure I never have to go through that process again so I will probably use some anti-seize but was unsure if the SS is better overall.
Thanks,
Matt

You can go to SS but what are you really gaining? In my experience, it is the hinge itself that wears...that is why the repacement pins are usually larger in diameter. I guess that you could polish the head on a SS pin and make it look nicer but other than that I personally don't see much else that would warrant the expense and risk of seizing.

The original ones lasted 60+ years, think you'll be around in another 60 to need to do them again?

It depends upon whether you think that you will ever have to remove the pins again. If your mirrors are mounted on the upper pins then you might (accident damage, etc.). Then SS would be worth the relatively slight cost.

It would take an very expensive ss to be as hard as high carbon pins.My guess is steel ones would last longer.

After going through the hell of removing a couple, I plan on finding the absolute best there is with the least likelihood of seizing. It won't matter to me, but, who knows, I might have a future grandson someday who might benefit from it.

I agree. Yes, I still have a ways to go on my build, but driving out those 4 pins was by far the worst part to date. I wouldn't wish that on anyone!

Hey Tigerfan,
Hmmm... I would highly recommend using the pins that don't rust.
We didn't and now we have a very nice looking truck with rusty door pins. Stainless get's my vote.
