Checking Points

The ole girl has been sputtering a bit in 3rd gear and I'm thinking it could be the points. I've never messed with points before and I'm having trouble trying to figure out what the right setting is. I just got some feeler gauges and I've read online that maybe 0.017 is the right setting. Is that right for a 352fe?

After a while you just kinda look at it and go "eh, that's about right" and tighten it down.

.017" is correct.

The trick is, ya hafta have the rubbing block juust set at the top of any one of the lobes on the dist. Don't try to file them unless you know how, but you can take a clean, new dollar bill and use that as an abrasive material and drag it through the closed points, saturated with non-residue solvent like naptha or carb cleaner.
