Determining Rear Brake Size Without Disassembly?
I meant to pull off a rear drum on my '85 F250 so I could figure out what size rear brakes I have in order to order new stuff for when I plan to re-do everything in another week. But as I ran short of time, and am away from the truck until when I'd like to do the work I'm hoping I can reliably determine what I'll need so I can place an order on time. I know I have dual piston front calipers, but am below the 8500GVW mark. Any suggestions?
Thank you,
Rick

I just did my brakes (MC, hub bearings, rotors, calipers, drums, cylinders, hardware, etc.) based on the Federal Mogul online catalog: Federal-Mogul Resource Center - Vehicle Look-up and everything was correct with one exception. That was the rear brake flexible hose. See my thread looking for the correct part number. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post12941749
There's one thing in particular you need to know, and that's if it has 3" or 2 1/2" rear brakes. Maybe someone can tell you if you can know that without looking at a drum.
The above Federal Mogul site lets you enter your VIN.
I mostly used Federal Mogul parts, though for the caliper retaining bolts and flexible hoses I used BrakeBest from O'Reilly. The hose to caliper banjo bolts I found at NAPA, no one else had them available. I'll see if I can find the PN.
I shopped around and ordered the parts from the lowest price supplier, ebay, Amazon and Advance Auto (they price match Rockauto)
I also needed to make a few brake lines and used copper-nicklel line from NAPA. Easy to work and never rusts.

I'm kind of surprised that having one kind of caliper (single vs. dual piston) doesn't tell me what size rear brakes I'll need, as you'd think this stuff was engineered as a 'package', but then it's also surprising to me that I have the lesser GVW rating, but the heavy duty caliper option
