I have found lots of transmission covers in catalogs and online with no holes in them for the shifter and parking brake lever.



My Parts Manuals only list item 12108 for the 53/56 trucks as the Plate Assy Floor Transmission Cover, so I have no part number for the 48/52 plate.

Does anyone know where I might find one of these covers with the holes for the shifter and brake? Mine is rusted on the right side, and I will either have to fix it (not likely) or find a new one.

 

Most of the originals had holes as most trucks had a floor shift trans. You could easily cut the holes you need in the new one using yours as a pattern. Or someone could have a decent used one. I'm fresh out.

 

I have one in an F2, but it may be some time until I can get it removed. I also don't remember the exact condition of it. I may have another decent used one with the hole for the shifter, but you'd have to cut the hole for the parking brake.

 

It would be too costly and the demand too low for the reproduction guys to make an exact cover for every model. The blank you show is the best thing for everyone. Since you have the original tranferring the holes to the correct location should be simple. I used the tranny cover from the F-7 cab I have in my F-2. I had to fill the original shift and brake lever holes and cut a new hole for my F-2 transmission set up. A lot easier to make new holes than to plug old ones.

I figured I could cut out the holes, but is seems a waste to cut into a new $95 (plus shipping) part if I could find a new one with the holes already in it.

Do these replacements have the holes for the gas pedal? The pic I used doesn't look like those holes are there. I see in the pic, they have the mounting holes already drilled. I guess I could just use sheet metal screws and drill those holes also.

No rush Ilya, but let me know what you come up with. I am not dying to replace it, but it will need to be done eventually.

I'm also going to need to replace the passenger side floor. A PO riveted in a plate to cover the rust hole.

 

How big of a piece do you need? I do have a donor floor but the right side is a little shakey. It would depend on what part you need and how much to determine if mine will help.

 

Now, Joe, lets talk about this. You need to repair the transmission cover. You said you'll need to repair the floorboard. If you have rust in these two areas, where else is that bad stuff going to be hiding? Cost of tranny cover plus shipping would go a long way toward the cost of a new MIG welder.
Never pass the chance to get a new toy or learn a new skill. That tranny cover would be an excellent place to learn a new skill.

FYI on Ebay the same part for $60.00. I pluged in 1952 Ford Truck Parts and down the list it was there.
By the way my first day on this forum I spent half the day reading your build thread. Loved the video as it sounded just like mine. Your better at shifting as I didn't hear any grinding. LOL I'm addicted as hard to not read so many of the threads.

Wayne, last time I was looking for the big hole in the floor he covered up, I seem to recall the hole is about the size of a large grapefruit. It's on the passenger side right in front of the seat... maybe 6 inches.
