1985 ford f250 stator help
Truck runs for about twenty minutes then stalls like someone turns the key off. Checked for spark and none. Replaced the ignition module and coil but still had the same problem. Next I replaced the stator inside my distributor and started the truck. Engine started to misfire and eventually stall, it sounded terrible. replaced the distributor cap since I am replacing the whole ignition system anyway but still misfiring. Put the old stator back in the distributor and truck runs perfect again till it stalls. I am getting a new stator today to try again but is there something I am missing. Didn't think there was much to replacing the stator. Everything goes back in the same way and only the same way. What could have caused the misfiring with the new stator? Its echlin brand from napa and looks exactly the same as the old one. Thanks for any help on this.

Thanks for the response, I have the duraspark. I thought about a bad module out of the box and ran the new one till it died and put the old one back on right away and it still wouldn't start. Think I narrowed it down to the stator. As for quality parts, I live on Maui so not much to choose from out here other than napa. The only bad part about living here is you can never find the part you need when you need it.

Thanks 81-F-150-Explorer. I got a new stator from napa and put it in today. Started up with no problems and so far no more stalling. Hopefully that fixed it. Substandard aftermarket parts was right. Wish I had more to choose from than Napa. Going to continue with a nice tune up of plugs, wires, oil change and etc.
For anyone replacing the stator, to get access to the stator you have to remove the armature and roll pin holding it down. Just put two long screw drivers on opposite sides and gently pry it up. Wasted about 10 minutes trying to figure that out. Maybe there is a better way but it worked for me.
