Not sure if its the same carb or not, but when i rebuilt the old 4bbl on my 460 i just picked up a generic rebuild kit at NAPA for $25 bux. Had everything i needed and then some. However, the new floats were composite instead of brass, so i kept the brass.

Is yours broke or leaking? Might be able to find some who can solder it up and fix it.

acceleration problems

Hey Hairyboxnoogle, tell me what you can about this dilemma. Ford F100 1974, 390+, edlebrock 650 carburetor on Offenhauser intake. Truck tries to die when I put it in gear, idles fine. When I start out I have to feather the accelerator to keep it from dying. Occurs even after warmed up engine. Am I looking at a clogged fuel line? Carb adjustment or overhaul? Timing?

im not a carb expert by any means, but i would pull the top of if an edelbrock, or the bowls if a holley and check for dirt, pluged jets / idle circuit etc. Could be one thing or a combination of things like timing, idle air mixture, sticking choke, accelerator pump etc.

Smile Edlebrock problems

Thank you for the immediate response. As soon as it quits raining I will go through a checklist that you suggested. First, however, I need to check the timing. Hasn't been adjusted for the past four or five years and now, with crappy corn gas, I may have to accomodate it. I have to use 91 octane as it is, and Fords with the C6 aren't noted for mileage. My Excursion's transmission is an absolute dream. If only I could put that OD transmission in my old truck, "Dorf", I believe I could get 14 or 15 highway MPG. Again, thanks for the quick reply, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

The carb is listed in the passenger car parts catalog, it's not listed in the truck parts.
Whether the tag reads D6 or D8 doesn't matter, they both take the same float.
The Ford part number is D5VZ-9550-A and the Motorcraft number is CM2145
Unfortunately I couldn't find any dealer or obsolete supplier that had one.

Smile Update on carb problem

Hairyb-n, the rain let up and the sun came out, I grabbed my timing gun and Ford distributor wrench and went to work. Timing was way off. I reset it, drove 'ol Dorf around the block a couple of times, stopping and starting and accelerating in second gear, and the problem is solved. All because you gave me impetus to start on it. Thanks. I do like Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forum. You are evidence of the reason.

Rebuilding my 4350 today as it was a used part on Ebay. Mine came without a carburetor and I live in California so smog is on my mind with this purchase (I spent only 60 bucks for a correct numbers carburetor the parts house wanted $290 plus a $379 core) even if I have to buy a new old stock float for 80 bucks I'm still in the green. Anyone find one at a parts house. Waiting till payday to pull the trigger so I have a few days till then. Any input would be wonderful

Anyone know of a under 70 dollar float for the 4350. Or a good way to repair the one I have Nitrophyl dosen't solder and every sealant I have read about will eventually melt into the carburetor.

I'll give it a shot. Most I have found eventually will deteriorate
