Alright guys thats it I've tried everything short of taking the carb apart. The problem is manifesting itself as a lot of fuel in the oil. The engines running smooth, the automatic choke looks like its good it opens fully but when i look down into the carb i can see liquid drops there.. looks messy. I know franklin2 says i shouldnt see any liquid in there but there definitely is. I looks like it hits the air and vaporizes but i can't be certain if it is.
Here's my disgusting carb just to set the mood a little:
I don't see any other option than taking the carb apart. I bought a rebuild kit at napa today:http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/Ca...91C_0185995811
The guy said it's the right one but i know it's wrong now because it says 1984-86 on the diagram and it doesn't have a match for my carb's id tag.
Can anybody help me out here? My motorcraft single barrel carb has some numbers on it: 6, then 2433 and a 4 underneath. Where can i get a matching kit? And does anyone know where I would buy a reliable replacement carb if i decided that I actually have no idea what i'm doing and I just want to buy a new one? Pointers for a first time carb rebuild? Thanks
Autozone shows two choices for your truck. Those numbers you have don't mean anything as far as the carb numbers they use. Like Napa, most of their numbers start with a 7 and have 4 digits.
You need to get this fixed. The fuel dripping into the engine will wash the oil off the cylinders, making the engine wear out sooner.
That's a Weber carb in the picture (little Weber 'W' on the body there)... I didn't think the Ford's would come stock with Webers? Wasn't it Carter? I thought they were mostly found on imports, a lot of Toyota's run 'em.
They also have a 4-part video on YouTube showing how to rebuild one.
If a picture is worth a thousand words, a video must be worth a thousand pictures,
Very helpful video. Turns out ive been having trouble because the ford dealer and parts stores use the motorcraft tag number while i was using the stamped carter number. The tag on my carb is long gone. Now i've got the right kit though, everything's looking much better today.
