So every now and again when im starting up my truck (77 f100) and i hold the key for more than like 4seconds, the truck will just keep cranking itsself even after i turn the key off, sometimes it'll stop after like 30 seconds others i have to go unhook the cable, i replaced the solenoid and ignition switch last week, but has done it twice since, could my starter be bad, or do you guys think there is a short somewhere in my wiring?? help much appreciated!!

 

Definitley a short somewhere in you wiring. Probably rubbing against something under the dash

 

Sounds to me like the two wires on your solenoid are switched, does the starter sometimes drag?

 

yeah it does!! i thought it was my timingg, sometimes i have to try and crank 4 times because of it

 

could you tell me how they are supposed to be so i could check?
