degas bottle dirty??

I dont know for sure if my truck had greasy film in degas before repair but it does now. last thing done was faulty injector had diesel mixing with oil. my oil cooler was replaced about 1800 miles ago after engine failure. I have diesel green coolant but dont remember the mess in the degass before.

If your coolant is GREEN, it's the wrong coolant!!! Get rid of it real soon and FLUSH EVERYTHING real good.... Should be Ford GOLD or a CAT ELC rated coolant which id RED.

Color isn't the best indicator Bud. My ELC is yellow - looks like the Gold stuff. Also, if the Ford add pack is added in w/ the Gold, it will turn the coolant a green color (hopefully the OP's case).

Bud has you covered on advice. Clean it out and get a fresh charge of the proper coolant. I would also be watching the degas bottle pressures.

Have you ever had any "puking" of the coolant?

Greasy coolant isn't necessarily oil contamination. Oil will emulsify quickly and turn into a tan or brown sludge.

So 1800 miles since an oil cooler. Shouldn't that mean that the current coolant charge is fresh also? Who did the oil cooler job?

Hi bismic a buddy of mine did it he said he used coolant that used fleet guard coolant. Because clear coolant under heat is what produces do called casting sand. No oil floating around jus film around the bottle

I had black/brown residue in the degas bottle after we installed my new hg's. I just took the degas bottle off and cleaned it out really well and reinstalled. Haven't seen any residue since.

To a certain extent they also turn a crappy brown color with age. The key is that the color is in the plastic and not the coolant.
