460 4x4 oil pan

Hey everyone I'm new to this website im 16 years old and i have alot of questions but first ive run into a problem with my project truck it's a 1979 frame and body with a 1978 460 motor and I can't find any used oil pans to fit a 4x4. I pulled this motor out of a 78 2wd and went through the motor cleaned it up replaced this and that and then I ran into this most recent problem. I've checked all of the salvage yards within 30miles, jegs, summit, and all the auto stores around. I even talked to a few mechanics and they couldn't find any under $250 If anyone could help me out it would be greatly appreciatted

If you have plans to lift the truck in the future a lift of 6 inchs or more you won't have to worry about the pan hitting the front did anymore. Lol.

I've got a 2wd pan on my 390 & used to slam the Damn pan into the front axle all the time.

L&L products they didn't put the 460 in factory 4x4 till in the 80's. L&L sells kits and parts to put 460s in the 73-79 4x4 trucks

Ford didn't offer the 460 with 4WD (or w/a M/T) until 1983.

Ford dealers sold customers who wanted to make this swap 1975/88 Econoline 460 reverse sump oil pans and 1975/97 Econoline 460 pickup tubes. Why?

Because there was no aftermarket source for these pans, tubes (or 460 4WD engine mount kits) until the late 1980's.

the econoline pan is a straight up REAR sump. its different from the pan they switched to later that most people end up using, the so called "hump sump" pan that is found in many later 2wd 460 fuel injected trucks, a lot of 4wd 460 trucks, and even some vans. Either one will work for you, just make sure you get the pick up, main stud, side mount dipstick tube, and dipstick to go with it.

The summit kit is a good value if you decide to go aftermarket. The correct pan is NOT that hard to find in a junkyard due to it being used on like 80% of 460 fuel injected trucks, however, its a real pain in the *** to pull an oil pan and main stud and pickup in a junkyard!!!!! On many vehicles with the 460 its impossible with the engine in place. ask me how I know.

Keep looking, You will find the right stuff but you will look for a while to find it in good shape, I would recommend a thread in dip stick oil pan rather than the press in type with a O ring. I run the latter kind and it leaks, I have a thread in type to convert it when I do the 545 swap.

the eco pan? econoline rear sump? The oil pump should be the same... for all 460's. Did your pickup not come with a screen?

Well basically this truck used to be my brothers and he blew up the 351 that was in it so I found a 460 that I could put in it and it came out of a 2wd that I bought for the motor and other spare parts

And ya the econoline rear sump. And I would have not asked but I've tried two different pumps and they were too tall
