True odometer of your truck?

I just about guarantee i alraedy know the answer to this question, but is there any way to determine the ACTUAL mileage of these older trucks with the 5 digit odometers? guy before me said the trick has tripped once, 187k miles. But i doubt it.

No real way of seing it with the odo it self.... but just take a look at the truck.

Seat wear, brake pedal pad wear, condition etc etc. Ofcourse these things only give you a rough idea on the mileage. It all depends what kind of mileage was it, like city vs highway.

For example, my van only has 95k miles on it, but the seat doesn't look the greatest, and the corner of the brake pedal was worn down to the metal, on the other hand, my 377k mile F250, has little wear on the brake pedal, and the seat looks new, but that was all highway driving....

But what makes you doubt your 187k on your truck?

I have a bill of sale from 10 years ago and maintenance records since then so i know its true. At the dmv i checked the box miles exceed mechanical limits and put down what the odo said.

Maintaince records, old registrations, and buying from someone you truck are about the only ways to know.

My truck was bought new by my grandfather, I'm the second owner. I know for a fact I got it at 113K miles

i got mine reading 54k on the clock, with reports that the engine had been rebuilt 3 years and 5-10k miles before. engine rebuild reciepts were included in the deal. seats were trashed, interior had an inch of drywall mud caked all over it, roof had been partially caved in at some point and popped back up, both right side doors had been replaced and their paint was a different color of white. brake pedal isn't quite down to the metal but almost there on the corner. no clue of actual mileage or what killed the original engine.
all i know for sure is the condition of parts that i can see: engine oil leaks slowly out of the oil cooler, but nowhere else. there were several coolant leaks in the corroded-up old radiator, which i replaced. transmission looked very clean inside when i changed the fluid. rearend had problems but has been fully redone, with only the housing and the body of the diff remaining original.
in short, a great drive train on a hammered body, and plenty of upgrades thrown in the mix

@IDIJohn
your comment about highway vs. in town driving makes sense, i bought it from a guy that used it simply as a snow plow truck in winter, so no high way there. He graduated from nashville diesel tech. or whatever the name of that school is, so i know he knew a little about trucks like this, so he seemed pretty honest, I informed him that i planned on fixing the truck up as a project, trying to get him to lower the price on it, which he did, and that being younger, i hoped that everything he told me was true, as if it wasn't, i wouldn't have the money to get it fixed, played a little youngin card there (;
The man i bought it from said he bought it from an older gentleman, the seat on the drivers side is work all to hell, passenger side looks like they didn't even know it could be sat on. pedals dont have much wear, clutch pedal cover will pop off if your foot slips but no wear on it. other than that the truck just has a looooot of rust, but all on the drivers side of the hood and on the roof, from being a snow plow. So to me, i guess it adds up, just kinda like to prep for the worst

so yours might only have 187, but it has enough wear that i would believe 287, due to the plow use
